The relationship between Nordic and Japanese design is a close one. Both schools display an affection for simplicity of expression and honest materials. In giving shape to the Belly pendant, Bønnelycke MDD drew inspiration from the traditional, Japanese tea pot. If you look closely, you will see clear references to the cast iron stove or the archetypal sleigh bell. With its dominantly artisanal look, Belly combines weightlessness of shape with lightness of suspension.
